Artist’s Statement:
I took my first ceramics class as a creative outlet while pursuing a masters’ degree in Spanish Literature. The power of creating objects with my hands was addicting, and soon I became a full time artist. My work is highly influenced by my background in literature; I use words, phrases, quotes and song lyrics juxtaposed with imagery to communicate with the viewer. My intention is that the viewer will respond to each piece based on their personal experiences, so that one piece may mean nothing, but another can speak to them on many levels. I loev seeing which pieces people will connect with.
I frequently revisit themes of death, depression, self-knowledge and love, in response to events and themes within my own life, with a good dose of humor and sarcasm mixed in to lighten the mood. My printing process evolved out of the desire to use text and image, as well as form, to express these themes and ideas.
All my pottery is food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Handle with care!
